Minimaster in Mechatronics
A minimaster in mechatronics, organized by TCN Consortium, will be held in July 2007.

TCN Consortium has organized a minimaster in mechatronics, lasting one week,
from 9th to 13th July 2007, that will take place at the Orbassano (TO) branch office.
Mechatronics, as an engineering discipline, is the synergistic combination of mechanics, electronics, information sciences and control engineering. A mechatronic system is therefore a physical system within which information are processed with the aim of influencing the system itself, in relation to the fulfilment of functional specification. It follows that a spectrum of almost unlimited applications is possible, leading mechatronics to outstanding spread levels.
To design, modify and optimize mechatronic systems, a transversal training in the basic subjects is necessary, as well as a parallel knowledge of their integration opportunities.
The objective of the TCN minimaster in mechatronics is to provide this knowledge, using an original and exclusive training method, in comparison to traditional university courses.

Both theoretical aspects and system hardware implementation will be taken care of, emphasising the physical understanding of the phenomena, rather than the formal mathematics treatment. The balancing of these requirements will define the higher training quality.
The outstanding experience of Professor C. Craig, proved by his successful workshops at important multinational companies, is the best guarantee that TCN can provide to everyone attending the course. The teaching method, Prof. Craig prefers, provides a massive use of application-oriented examples, for which solutions, during the lectures, have to be found out. From the didactic point of view, traditional teaching will be supplemented by the use of audio-visual aids and “hands-on” sessions on real mechatronic systems.
The course provides a training on all the necessary techniques and technologies for a complete and effective design of mechatronic systems.
- Physical modelling;
- Analytical modelling;
- Simulation and virtual analysis;
- Models validation;
- Controls of any kind (analog, digital, real-time), from definition to implementation;
- Controlled, electromechanical and fluid actuators;
- Power electronics.
Each competence area proves to be useful in a specific stage of the mechatronic system design, from the concept design to its engineering for the mass production. It follows that a wide and organic training on the subject is given, to provide the designer with well-oriented tools for its daily work. A good comprehension of the master subjects will allow the participants to promptly and effectively meet the market needs.
